In the summer months Axminster’s town centre is decorated with colourful street banners made by volunteers for a project initiated by Axminster Chamber of Commerce. Each banner tells its own story from the town’s history or celebrating today’s rich present.
Each banner is designed by a local artist and the image then transferred to pre-prepared fabric templates ready for hand-painting and then hanging from metal flagpoles in May. You will find a brief explanation for each design in the business premises that hosts it, and can then go to a website to learn the full story.
In 2024, the group plans to take its current ‘fleet’ of 26 banners to 36, with involvement for the first time from local schools.
